Ashton's Diary - Oct 2020 Part 2

Ashton October second half


Chantelle Burns Nanny : 23/10/20 Video 1 - Labelling actions (star program 2 , expressive language lesson 5 - action pictures)

Goal - to label the noun (he/she) and verb (eg. sleeping) when presented with an action picture flashcard.


Outcome - Ashton was able to label each of the action picture cards using a noun and a verb. I had to give Ashton encouragement to complete this task as he wasn't complete focused.





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 23/10/20 Video 2 - Waseca Reading Program (Green Australian Biome Folder - Dingoes)

Goal - to interpret (jointly with me) the pre sequenced picture cards in the Dingoes folder.


Outcome - I started this activity with Ashton, however it didn't last long. At first Ashton showed some interest as I explained what was happening in each picture, but when we started placing down the sentence cards he cried. I ended the activity as he was too upset.





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 23/10/20 Video 3 - Osmo (math wizard)

Goal - to follow the instructions to make a growing and shrinking potion. (number recognition and addition)


Outcome - This was our first time using Osmo Math Wizard so we had to figure out what we needed to do. Once we got going Ashton really enjoyed this task. At first Ashton was being cheeky and following his own agenda, but when he grasped the activity and started listening he did an excellent job. Ashton was able to recognise the numbers and follow the instructions to complete these simple addition questions. As Ashton completed each addition question a potion was made and he loved this. Overall Ashton did a great job following the instructions and showed he can successfully add small numbers easily.

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 21/10/20 Video 1 - Positional Words

Goal - to place items onto the activity mat based on the position requested (example - inside/outside).


Outcome - Ashton was able to follow my instructions and place the items in the positions I requested. We practised inside/outside, in/on, on top/underneath and in/out. Next time as an extension I would like to see if he can instruct me on where to place the items.

Goal - to match the picture cards to the picture mat.


Outcome - Ashton was able to match all pictures he was presented with to the pictures on the matching mat. I asked him to identify who or what was in the pictures and he did this sometimes.




Chantelle Burns Nanny : 21/10/20 Video 3 - Time 4 Learning (at the zoo)

Goal - to select the group of animals that has more/fewer when presented with two options.


Outcome - Today I wanted to explore the at the zoo section on Time 4 Learning. I selected the brainy bots activity and this required Ashton to select more/fewer out of two options depending on the question. Ashton was able to do this sometimes, however I'm not sure if he was fully engaged with the activity.

Video 1,2 - SP 2 PC Lesson 6 matching 1-10


Goal - to identify the number and match the corresponding amount using pebbles


Outcome - Ashton didn’t show much interest in this activity, he is able to identify most of the numbers however was being cheeky and would say a different number. He was able to place out the correct amount of pebbles for numbers 3 and 5 independently, we counted out 7 pebbles together.

Video 3,4- reading our way

Goal - to match the pictures

Outcome - Ashton was able to match all of the pictures independently with some prompting







Sammy Nanny: Video 5 - positional words


Goal - to listen to the instructions and complete the directions independently


Outcome - Ashton began to place the submarine above water and the boat under water however switched the pictures around. Ashton was able to place the construction trucks as well as the emergency vehicles independently once hearing the instructions.

Video 6 - time 4 learning - letter recognition

Goal - listening to the sounds of each letter, then identifying which letter out of 4 choices


Outcome - for this activity Ashton was given 4 letter options, the computer would ask him to find the letter that makes the sound (eg ssssss), Ashton was able to identify letters Zz and Mm right away!

Video 7 - time 4 learning - letter recognition


Goal - matching letters into lower case or capitols


Outcome - Ashton was able to sort the letters into their matching lower case or capital letter independently.

Speech therapy

Used “clicker sentences “ today.. it is an app for writing sentences.





















After speech therapy today on 20 October I got in the car and said “oh I am feeling tired “ and Ashton replied unprompted “I feel tired too. “ I said “well maybe Ashton we can go home, have some lunch and then you can have a rest would you like that?” and he replied “yes.[]”

First time we have had a conversation like that. Where he has naturally followed the line of the conversation.


Chantelle Burns Nanny : 17/10/20 Video 1 - Tania’s word match

Goal - to match the word cards to the words on the paper.


Outcome - Ashton wasn’t very keen to participate with this task today. He was able to match a few of the words, however he was being cheeky and not showing much interest.

Goal - to follow instructions and count to ten by placing various items down when requested (for example 1 jacket in the closet, 2 scoops on the ice cream). (numbers and counting)

Outcome - Ashton was able to count out the various items and place them onto their corresponding mat. As Ashton did this I got him to count out the items, for example when placing the scoops onto the ice cream I got him to count out how many there were. I also tried to get him to look at the number written on the mat so he could associate that number with what we were counting. Ashton experienced success with this activity.





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 17/10/20 Video 3 - Time 4 Learning (shapes)

Goal - to complete Jojo's matching shapes puzzle.


Outcome - Ashton really enjoyed matching the shapes when he played Jojo's puzzle on Time 4 Learning. He was able to match and identify all the shapes correctly. At the end I got Ashton to tell me what shapes to pick so I could complete the puzzle based on his instructions.







Chantelle Burns Nanny : 16/10/20 Video 1 - Waseca Program (reading program) - Red 1 (three letter phonetic words and short vowel sounds - a)

Goal - to sound out words phonetically to encourage reading and spelling.


Outcome - Ashton needed encouragement throughout this task today. He did a great job with sounding out the letters, but I had to make sure he was looking, focusing and pointing. We worked through all of red draw one even though towards the end Ashton was being cheeky and making noises.






[16/10/20, 7:32:00 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 16/10/20 Video 2 - Waseca Reading Program (Orange Australian Biome Folder - Koalas and Gumtrees)

Goal - to interpret (jointly with me) the pre sequenced picture cards in the Koalas and Gumtrees folder.


Outcome - Today I worked on the orange Australian biome folder with Ashton. I discussed each picture card with Ashton whilst asking him questions. I than laid down the sentence cards and we discussed everything further. Ashton enjoyed this activity again today although I feel he wasn't as engaged with my questioning compared to yesterday.

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 15/10/20 Video 1 - Waseca Reading Program (Red Australian Biome Folder - Numbats and Wombats)

Goal - to interpret (jointly with me) the pre sequenced picture cards in the Numbats and Wombats folder.

Learn about life sciences


Outcome - I laid out the six picture cards from the Numbats and Wombats folder and I went through each one with Ashton in sequence. As I went through each card I told Ashton what was happening in the picture and I asked him a question to check his understanding/interpretation, each time Ashton gave me a correct response. My next step involved placing the corresponding sentence cards underneath each picture, as I did this I read the sentence out to Ashton and explained it in more detail where needed. I also got Ashton to help me place the sentence card down (only for the last few cards) and I encouraged him to look at the words as I read them.

Goal - to finish the alternating pattern. (sequencing and patterning)


Outcome - Ashton was able to complete some of the alternating weather patterns today on the first try. Occasionally Ashton selected the incorrect option (when presented with two choices) and I feel this was when he wasn't concentrating properly.

Goal - to match the seasonal clothing with the corresponding weather (sun, snow and rain). (matching)


Outcome - When we began this activity Ashton was a little distracted so I modelled it for him and he was than able to complete the rest of the matches on his own. Ashton did a great job at matching the seasonal clothing to the corresponding weather.




Chantelle Burns Nanny : 16/10/20 Video 5 - Sea creature clock

Goal - to find the correct spot on the clock to place the puzzle piece. (numbers and counting/telling the time)


Outcome - For this activity I decided to hand Ashton each puzzle piece one at a time. I asked him to find the correct spot on the clock and than to count the corresponding sea creatures. With encouragement Ashton was able to do this. As we did this I explained to Ashton what time it was on the clock (for example, when I gave him the two dolphins I moved the hands on the clock and told him the time). We repeated this until the puzzle was complete. Occasionally Ashton would count the sea creatures incorrectly so I would get him to recount.








[15/10/20, 6:03:31 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 15/10/20 Video 2 - Time 4 Learning (on the farm)

Goal - to select the correct animal based on its sound and when presented with two options.

Goal - to find the correct animal out of four options.


Outcome - Today on Time 4 Learning Ashton completed two tasks with the on the farm section. The first task required Ashton to listen to the animal sound and select the correct animal out of two options. Ashton was able to select the correct animal sometimes on the first try. The next activity involved selecting the correct animal out of four options and again Ashton was able to select it sometimes on the first try.







Chantelle Burns Nanny : 15/10/20 Video 3 - Cutting with scissors

Goal - to cut paper hair (along lines) whilst holding scissors correctly.


Outcome - Ashton did a great job with crazy hair cutting today, he held his scissors correctly and listened to my instructions. At times I held the plastic plate and placed Ashton's hand on the paper to hold it for extra support, this helped Ashton to cut along the lines.







Chantelle Burns Nanny : 15/10/20 Video 4 - Pink Oatmeal (Earth and Weather week) Earth Day Yoga - to increase overall flexibility and muscle strength.





Ashton’s happy face when he was watching the birds at the bird show at Currumbin wildlife sanctuary. He was very engaged.






Sammy Nanny: 13/10/20

Video 1- waseca program - short “a”

Goal - to sound out the words and match the letters to the word


Outcome - Ashton was able to sound out each of the letter sounds to make the words hat, mat and cat. He needed encouragement at times to place out the letters to form each of the words.




Sammy Nanny: 13/10/29

Video 2,3- time 4 learning maths

Goal - to pop the bubbles with number 3 and 6


Outcome - Ashton showed more interest in popping random numbers than the numbers 3 & 6 that were asked by the game. To encourage Ashton to click the numbers and the amount that were asked for I tried demonstrating what to do, Ashton eventually was able to complete the task independently






Sammy Nanny: 13/10/20

Video 4,5- Osmo pizza

Goal - to create pizza the customers order


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify what ingredients each customer wanted in their pizzas. At times I had to encourage Ashton to make the orders the customers wanted as it would make them unhappy if ingredients that they didn’t enjoy were on the pizza.

Sammy Nanny: Video 5,6- waseca program - short “a”


Goal - to sound out the words and match the letters to the word


Outcome - Ashton didn’t show much interest in this lesson today, I helped Ashton along the way by placing the letters of the words in sequential order. Towards the end of the activity Ashton was able to sound out the word sound by sound h-a-t and laid out the the corresponding letters with some assistance.

Sammy Nanny: Video 7,8- reading a book

Goal - language - science

Outcome - Ashton I were reading his big ocean book, we talked about the sea creatures we could see. Ashton also was pretending to be afraid of some of the dangerous sea creatures.
