Updated: Jul 27, 2023

November second half Ashton Diary

(Get the magic school bus series for Ashton ) he was acting out honey I shrunk the kids.

Nanny: 30/11/20

Video 1 - reading our way - step 5 - choosing words

Goal - to pick up the word that I ask for (mum & dad)

Outcome - Ashton was able to identify which word was mum and which word was dad, we can now move onto 4 words.

[1/12/20, 7:34:03 pm] Sammy Nanny: 30/11/20

Video 2 - counting fingers

Goal - to use his fingers to show numbers

Outcome - Ashton didn’t show much interest in using his fingers to display numbers today, instead he counted along with my fingers.

[1/12/20, 7:35:12 pm] Sammy Nanny: 30/11/20

Video 3 - time 4 learning - my feelings

Goal - to select the image with the amount of faces being asked.

Outcome - Ashton was able to click on the correct amount of faces with some prompting as he was clicking on the amount that he wanted.

30/11/20

Social interaction- today when Ashton was watching ugly dolls he went to his sisters and told them to go with him. Together they lined up in front of the tv holding hands and together they “jumped into the tv” and became ugly dolls.

[28/11/20, 5:11:31 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 28/11/20 Video 1 - Matching task (same/different)

Goal - to circle items that are the same/different as required.

Outcome - Ashton was able to select the items that were the same in question one, however when it came to selecting the item that was different in question two he still wanted to find the ones that were the same. Ashton would draw a line selecting the three items that were the same so I ended up circling the one that was different in an effort to bring his attention to that concept.

[28/11/20, 5:13:37 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 28/11/20 Video 2 - Simple addition

Goal - to add together simple single digit numbers eg. 2 + 3 = 5. (addition and number recognition)

Outcome - Ashton was able to recognise each individual number that I showed him and he was able to place wooden counters down to represent each number. Occasionally I had to prompt Ashton to count the wooden counters. Ashton was able to successfully add up two simple single digit numbers with prompting to keep him on task.

[28/11/20, 5:15:59 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 28/11/20 Video 3 - Attention (light board cards)

Goal - to attend to materials (ie. light boards cards) presented on the workspace (ask Ashton to look at the card and identify what is on it - therefore attending to the light board card). (attending)

Outcome - Ashton really enjoyed this task and was able to attend to and identify each light board card. I would place two cards in front of Ashton and get him to attend to each card, as I did this Ashton came up with an excellent idea to combine the cards together. This was really fun and showed his imaginative side.

[28/11/20, 5:20:36 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 28/11/20 Video 4 - Time 4 Learning (colours) sentence slopes

Goal - to reorder jumbled words to make a correct sentence.

Outcome - This task is a little hard for Ashton as it involves reading, however he does enjoy it. Ashton likes choosing a person and helping them get to the top of the hill (the person progresses up the hill for each correct sentence). During this activity I helped Ashton select the correct order for each sentence, as I did this I used the mouse to hover over each word so Ashton could hear it read aloud. We did this activity twice and the second time round I asked Ashton what colour was mentioned in each sentence to ensure he was listening.

[28/11/20, 5:22:27 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 28/11/20 Video 5 - Hot tub high dive

Ashton enjoyed playing hot tub high dive with his sisters. He took turns and played three rounds versing each of his sisters. Part of the game is to spin the spinner to see how many times you get to press the button, Ashton would often press the button more than he should have. All the children had fun playing together.

Outcome - Ashton wasn't overly focused during this activity today. I had to prompt and assist him throughout. We ended up completing red draw 2, however Ashton will need to revisit it (several more times) to ensure he has fully grasped each word.

[27/11/20, 8:39:19 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 27/11/20 Video 2 - Attention (yes/no snap)

Goal - to attend to materials (ie. picture cards) when laid upside on the workspace (ask Ashton to turn over the card and look at it - therefore attending to the picture card). (attending)

Outcome - Ashton was able to attend to each picture card that I placed down in front of him. Sometimes I had to ask a few times before he would turn the card over. Once Ashton turned the card over I would ask him the relevant question, as stated on the card and he had to select yes or no. Ashton was pretty cheeky during this time and he would select the incorrect answer. I'm sure Ashton new which one he was supposed to choose, but he was trying to be funny.

Goal - to sort items based on their colours. (sorting and colour recognition)

Outcome - Ashton was a little bit cheeky during this activity and initially wasn't sorting the items correctly (he does this because he likes the sound the computer makes when he puts things in the wrong spot). I continually encouraged Ashton during this task by reminding him he needed to get ticks to earn his good shop star. This encouragement seemed to help and Ashton began placing the items under the correct colour. In the end Ashton was able to sort all of the items correctly.

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 27/11/20 Video 4 - Obstacle course (sight words)

Goal - to complete the (simple) obstacle course and retrieve the sight word from the bowl. (gross motor and word recognition)

Outcome - Ashton was able to complete the obstacle course with his own flair (he didn't necessarily listen to my instructions, but he completed the course in his own way). At the end of the course I had a sight word in a bowl and Ashton grabbed this out, I told him what it was and got him to repeat it. Ashton's two younger sisters also took part. Giselle was supposed to take a turn after Ashton, however he was cheeky and had another turn. After this I ensured Ashton waited and watched his sisters by holding his hand and instructing him to watch from the side.

Outcome - Ashton was able to verbally express to me what each picture card was when asked. Ashton has achieved this goal as he is already able to label all of the pictures in each of the required sets.

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/11/20 Video 2 - Star Program 2 (receptive language - lesson 2 - accelerated labels)

Goal - to receptively identify pictures when given the cue "give me..."

Goal - to cut around the circles using the correct scissor grip

22/11/20 Sammy Nanny: Video 3 - time 4 learning (word count)

Goal - to label and sort shapes accordingly. (sorting)

Outcome - Ashton was able to sort all the shapes correctly. As I handed Ashton each shape I asked him to identify it and he could name most of the common shapes, however he insisted that the oval was a circle (in the end I moved onto the next shape). Ashton is still learning to identify some shapes, for example the hexagon and pentagon.
