Ashton’s diary February second half

[27/2/21, 6:08:12 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 27/02/21 Video 1 - Math

Goal - to count the train cars and write the number on the line. (counting and writing numerals)

Outcome - Today Ashton completed a counting worksheet, for each question he had to count the train cars and write the number on the line. Ashton was able to count the train cars and I wrote the number on the line for him to copy. Ashton attempted to copy each number with stroke like motions.

[27/2/21, 6:11:07 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 27/02/21 Video 2 - Science year one (light and dark)

Goal - explore the concept of light and dark through the use of a peek box. (making scientific observations)

Outcome - Today I made a peek box filled with shiny stickers for year one science, so we could explore the concept of light and dark. Ashton needed to look through the hole on the box when it was closed, opened and also with a torch shining through. At each stage I discussed/asked questions with Ashton about the darkness and light within the box and how this changed what we were able to see. Ashton was able to recognise that we couldn't see much when the box was dark, but as we added light we could see the shiny stickers. Ashton enjoyed looking through the hole when we used the torch.

Today we did magic sand and Ashton decided to build a dragon he found in his wardrobe

[26/2/21, 6:41:14 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/02/21 Video 1 - Reading our way (step 5)

Goal - choosing words when I verbally ask for a particular word.

Outcome - Ashton was able to hand me one word correctly today. We need to keep repeating this step until Ashton can recognise all six words.

[26/2/21, 6:42:06 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/02/21 Video 2 and 3 - Sunshine online (the birthday party)

Goal - to listen to the story and complete a worksheet.

Outcome - Today Ashton listened to, The Birthday Party story and again he really enjoyed it, pretending to eat all of the food along the way. After the story Ashton needed to complete a worksheet that required him to draw the party food items. Ashton did an excellent job trying to draw the party food items, he even wanted to pick the correct colours for the jelly. When it came time to draw the balloon, Ashton pretended the balloon was taking him up into the sky so I popped it for him. This was great imaginative role play initiated by Ashton. There was a writing portion to this worksheet and I wrote the corresponding words whilst showing them to Ashton.

[26/2/21, 6:44:16 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/02/21 Video 4 - Math U See (2e)

Goal - to count and circle the correct answer.

Outcome - Ashton was able to count the items in each question and circle the correct corresponding number on the number line.

Goal - sequencing a story (first, next and last).

Outcome - In our first lesson today we needed to answer three questions based on sequencing. We listened to, The Little Red Hen and afterwards we answered the three questions (these were based on first, next and last). Ashton needed some help with these questions so I assisted him. In our next lesson Ashton had to complete a quiz, again on sequencing. There were five questions and each question told a different mini story. Ashton needed to answer the questions and was asked about first, next and last. At times Ashton needed my help to answer the questions.

[26/2/21, 6:47:19 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/02/21 Video 8 and 9 - Time 4 Learning (math)

Goal - counting 6-10 quiz and completing a counting worksheet.

Outcome - For our first math lesson today Ashton needed to complete a five question quiz. Each question showed Ashton a group of something and he had to count that group and select the appropriate answer (he either had to select a group with the same amount or a group that had a different amount, depending on the question). At times Ashton needed assistance to motivate him to complete the questions. Our next lesson was a worksheet and Ashton had to count each group of items and write the corresponding number on the line. I got a Ashton to count each group and I wrote the number on the line for him to copy. Ashton attempted to copy the numbers with a scribble like motion.

[26/2/21, 6:49:15 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 26/02/21 Video 10 - Time 4 Learning (science)

Goal - location and perspective, picking the correct answer out of two options (for example which one is under the fence?).

Outcome - Ashton was presented with a series of location and perspective questions for science today. For example the first question showed a picture of two girls swinging (one was low and the other was high), Ashton needed to select the one that was low and he was able to do this. Ashton answered all of the following location and perspective questions independently. At the end Ashton was very excited as he was presented with a medal, which he pretended to place around his neck.

Goal - choosing words when I verbally ask for a particular word.

Outcome - Today I placed down six word cards for Ashton, as I placed each card down I read out the word. I asked Ashton to identify the words and each time he handed me the incorrect word. We will repeat this step.

[25/2/21, 6:00:19 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 25/02/21 Video 3 - Math U See (2d)

Goal - to cross out the wrong number and trace the correct number. (writing numerals)

Outcome - Ashton was able to answer both questions correctly and he crossed out the incorrect number.

[25/2/21, 6:01:48 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 25/02/21 Video 4 - Sunshine online (the birthday party)

Goal - to predict and draw what will happen in the story and listen to the story.

Outcome - Before we started our story today I asked Ashton to predict what he thought would happen and to draw a picture. Ashton said it was a birthday party and I told him he could draw a cake. Ashton attempted to draw a cake and we went on to read the story. During the story lots of party food items were shown and Ashton was pretending to eat them all. This was his own idea and showed great imagination. Ashton really enjoyed this story and the theme.

Goal - listen to a poem about location and perspective.

Outcome - Today Ashton watched a scientific poem about location and perspective. After the poem a picture was shown of two football players and we needed to state which one appears to be bigger (the near one or the far one). I helped Ashton with the answer as this was a tricky question.

I got Emilie to call my phone so that Ashton could feel it vibrate. Ashton thought this was really cool and I helped him understand that the phone was vibrating through the box. Our next experiment involved blowing up a balloon and Ashton was excited for this. We had to hold the balloon while talking onto it so we could feel the vibrations and movement that our voices created. Ashton really enjoyed this and was engaged with the task.
