Updated: Jul 28, 2023

August

13/8/20

[13/8/20, 5:10:29 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/08/20 Video 1 - Writing his name

Goal - to independently trace the letters of his name.

Outcome - Ashton wasn't very keen to start so I gave him his liquid toy to help him regulate. We went through each letter of his name and chose a word that the letter started with, for example s is for snake. Ashton was able to do stroke like movements when he attempted to trace the letters. We occasionally gave him hand over hand help as well.

[13/8/20, 5:19:53 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/08/20 Video 2 - Alphabet playdough mats

Goal - to use playdough (fine motor) to make the letters on the alphabet mat (letter recognition).

Outcome - With assistance Ashton was able to help me make the letter 'a' out of playdough. He was able to manipulate the playdough to make each letter. During this task I spoke about some words that started with the letter 'a'. I also asked Ashton do identify the letter in both its upper and lowercase form which he was able to do.

[13/8/20, 5:30:17 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/08/20 Video 3 - Hidden numbers

Goal - to find the hidden numbers to match the corresponding amount of dots.

Outcome - I placed magnetic dots onto a board for Ashton to count and gave him a tub filled with numbers hidden in flour. Ashton was able to count the magnetic dots but needed encouragement when it came to finding the numbers (he was more interested in playing with the flour). In the end I stopped the activity as Ashton was putting the flour onto the floor (he seemed to enjoy getting the flour on his hands and shaking it onto the floor). Next time I'll use a different sensory material such as rice.

[13/8/20, 5:39:57 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/08/20 Video 4 - Paint stamps

Goal - to stamp out the requested number using various stamp insects.

Outcome - First I got Ashton to tell me all of the paint colours I had laid out. He was able to tell me each colour. We then began to use the paint stampers. I would give Ashton an amount I wanted him to stamp and he was able to do that each time. At one point Ashton stamped more than the requested amount so I got him to count them (he did this successfully). Overall Ashton enjoyed this activity.

[13/8/20, 5:54:06 pm] Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/08/20 Video 5 - Peanut ball chops (pink oatmeal)

13/08/20 Video 6 - Star program 1 receptive language lesson 5 (non verbal imitation)

Goal - to imitate gross motor movements when using the verbal cue "do this".

Outcome - Ashton was able to successfully copy all actions when given the verbal cue of "do this" rather than me saying, (for example) "touch your head". He was able to copy most actions quickly but needed a little prompting for clapping as he had lost focus. I believe Ashton can move on from this activity.

[13/8/20, 5:19:08 pm] Viryan:

This week Ashton has been able to blow his nose for the first time.

12/8/20

Morning

I went in to Ashton and he was sitting on his bed and he said “look I am watching angry birds.” As he pointed to his iPad . “It is a game. “ oh wow can you play it . I said.

“ yes you have to break it “ as he pointed to the buildings .

Ashton was amazing this evening. The girls were running in and out of the lounge and Ashton started to hold scarlett and push her lovingly to the lounge and then he grabbed Anastasia and did the same holding her and laughing. The girls ran off and Ashton said “where are the girls ?” As he looked down the hall . He the proceeded to run after them and said I need to tickle them and he hit yo the library nook and grabbed Anastasia laughing.

As they girls wanted to come upstairs Ashton said he wanted to go upstairs . He had a treat and counted the snake gummies with no trouble up to four and then said “ how about another one for five ?” So he can count when he wants to. He didn’t get five he got one.

He then went and lay on our bed very calmly for 30 minutes. I said it’s time to go to your bed and he said “ no I want to stay in daddy and mummy’s bed!” I said ok for a little while longer and then he went down to his bed about fifteen minutes later.

Goal - to identify and make the sounds of letters A,b,c as well as trace the letters.

Outcome - Ashton was able identify and sound out the letter A for Apple he also was able to recognise that his name also started with the letter A. Ashton didn’t show as much interest in the letters b or c however he liked pressing the stamps over the page. Next we moved onto tracing over the letters, I used some hand over hand to encourage Ashton to trace within the lines.

[12/8/20, 7:43:42 pm] Sami Nanny: 12/08/20

Video 3 & 4- miscellaneous math

Goal - to answer the questions by circling the answers or connecting lines

Outcome - Ashton was making stroking motions over the cards so I did some hand over hand to circle the answers together. Ashton gave the octopus and spider the legs that they needed.

[12/8/20, 7:48:27 pm] Sami Nanny: 12/08/20

Video 5 - SP2 PC lesson 4 numbers 1-10

[11/8/20, 5:39:28 pm] Sami Nanny: 11/08/20

Video 1 - letter recognition using water paint and a white crayon

Goal - to find the hidden letters and identify them.

Outcome - on a piece of white paper I wrote down the letters Aa Bb and Cc using white crayon so it would be invisible until

Ashton used the water colours over it to reveal the hidden letter. Ashton showed more interest in changing the colour of the water rather than finding the hidden letter. I had three items an Apple, bakugan and a car so Ashton could identify which item corresponded with the letter he revealed. We moved onto the worksheets for letters a,b,c, Ashton needed encouragement to complete each worksheet.

Goal - to complete math worksheets using the correct pencil grip

Outcome - Ashton didn’t want to complete the math Worksheets today, he was able to complete 2D with lots of encouragement.

I had to remove the motivator as Ashton would not complete his mThs by talking to me . I don’t like to do this but he will get it back this afternoon. He needs to work for what he wants to play with and then hopefully we will be able to remove the extrinsic motivator and he will be wanting to complete activities through intrinsic motivation. It is important that we follow through especially when we know he knows what we are asking him to do but he just doesn’t want to do it. Ashton has to learn that sometimes we have to do what we don’t want to in order to be social .

11/08/20

He was biting his finger a lot during this task and needed to regulate at times. About halfway through I had lined the cards up and asked Ashton what was happening in each card, he didn't really give me a response as he wasn't properly focused. I than decided to tell my own story with the cards and I held Ashton's hand and got him to point to each card so he would re-focus and follow along. By the end Ashton was repeating what I was saying and it appeared he was following along with my story.

Ashton building Mario LEGO

[2/8/20, 9:14:59 am] Viryan: August 2020

Mathematical concepts and am I doing it right .. trying to get a balance .

With Ashtons therapy I sometimes wonder am I doing the right thing . E.g Ashton you can have your LEGO when you have finished this activity!! Am I denying him? Am I forcing him to do something he doesn’t want to do? I know I don’t make him sit too long at any one time . He can always get up and wiggle when he’s done and it’s never very long.

When I question am I putting too much pressure on him to achieve or accomplish something, I think , no, because I am expecting these things of his siblings and I do adjust it to Ashtons sensory needs and cognitive needs.

So if Anastasia wants to play a game in her iPad then we tell her when she has done this, then she can play . So she is my check for myself .

Ashton has lots of time to play naturally and then he has time he needs to do formal or intentional learning . Where we can the intentional learning can be applied to nature .

I just worry sometimes that if I don’t do the intentional learning then he won’t be able to generalize and understand if he has to do something formally. Don’t know what that something is but we are so conditioned that this is the way we learn and so when it is so different for Ashton I try and ensure what he learns can be applied to his life, and what we need to survive in society.
