Video 1 - Cutting shapes with scissors/Token Board (Star Program 1)

Goal - to independently cut out shapes holding scissors correctly.

Goal (token board) - to place five tokens on the board to earn time playing with the reinforcer (magnet animals).

Outcome - At first Ashton didn't want to do this activity. I decided to model cutting out a shape for him and he was than ready to give it a go (with hand over hand help and lots of encouraging). Ashton's ability to cut along the dotted line is showing improvement and he was able to cut out the last shape without much assistance (I held the paper to help him).

Ashton was able to place on the correct amount of tokens to earn time playing with his magnet animals.

Video 1 - Where should I put it?

Goal - to correctly select where an item of food should be kept from one choice.

Outcome - Ashton was able to select the correct choice every time. He requested that I be Sharkie and he enjoyed the activity. He was a little cheeky and would sometimes select the incorrect option but that was part of his game with Sharkie.

I will now move forward to the next book where Ashton will need to select the correct option out of two choices.

Video 2 - Cutting with scissors along a dotted line

Goal - to independently cut along a dotted line holding the scissors correctly.

Outcome - Ashton was reluctant to start this activity and needed encouragement. I showed him an example of me cutting and than he decided to participate. Ashton was able to cut along two dotted lines but needed me to hold the paper for him at times. He did a good job at staying on the line and holding the scissors.

Video 1 - waiting for a desired activity/toy

Goal - to see how Ashton responds to waiting for something he wants

Outcome - Today we used LEGO for this activity, I had a pile of LEGO and Ashton also had his own pile. Ashton and I were making our own robots when he noticed a piece in my pile that he wanted, I asked Ashton to look at me and to ask for what he wanted. I asked Ashton to look at me a few times during the activity to encourage eye contact.

Video 1 - Labelling Actions

Goal - to label an action card using a noun-verb combination.

Goal (token board) - to place four tokens on the board to earn time playing with the reinforcer (magnet animals).

Outcome - Ashton was being cheeky during this activity and didn't initially want to participate even with the incentive of the token board. In the end Ashton was able to correctly label the action cards using he/she and the appropriate action. He was also able to place four tokens onto the board to earn time with his magnet animals.

Video 2 - Yellow Stepper

Goal - to use the stepper without holding my hand.

Outcome - Ashton is still wanting to hold my hand during this activity. I believe he would successfully be able to do it on his own though if he would let go of my hand.

Video 1 - Labelling Actions

Goal - to label an action card using a noun-verb combination.

Outcome - Ashton wasn't in the mood for his session with me today. He was able to label one card (she is eating) but was too upset to finish the activity. I decided to stop the activity as Ashton was crying and in this case I felt persistence wasn't going to work.

Video 2 - star program 1 play and social interaction lesson one - readiness for play.

Goal - to relinquish a highly motivating toy when I put my hands out/when I say my turn.

Outcome - Ashton was playing with his magnetic animals but due to his mood I was unable to have much success with this activity. He handed me the toy once when I said "my turn" however, every other time I tried he would tell me no. I feel this was due to how Ashton was feeling at the time.

Creating

Ashton said he wanted to make the Statue of Liberty and this is what he made. I was signing build it up with bricks and mortar while he built it. When he finished I asked what it was and he said the Statue of Liberty and that it was built with bricks and mortar.

Video 1 - Tracing Lines/Token Board (Star Program 1)

Goal - to independently trace lines using the correct pen grip.

Goal (token board) - to place three tokens on the board to earn time playing with the reinforcer (fishing game).

Outcome - Ashton initially needed some encouragement and hand over hand help to trace the lines. The use of the token board seemed to give him motivation and he was able to independently trace some of the lines himself. He still needs to work on his pen grip however, when Ashton traced the lines slowly he experienced success. Ashton was able to place three tokens on the board to earn time playing the fishing game.

Video 2 - Fishing Game

Goal - to take turns with me playing the fishing game.

Outcome - Ashton was able to successfully take turns playing the fishing game with me. He was able to answer my questions when asked and seemed to have fun. Ashton showed he had the ability to wait for his turn. Next time I would like to include Anastasia in the game to see how he goes when a sibling is introduced.

22/04/20

Video 1 - tracing lines

Goal - to trace along the line using the correct pencil grip

Outcome - Ashton was able to trace along the line with assistance as he wanted to draw a line very fast. We need to continue to work on his pencil grip.

Video 2 - I see a (safari)

Goal - to repeat the sentences

Outcome - Ashton didn’t want to do this activity today, it took a lot of encouragement and the use of the magnetic animals as a reinforcer for Ashton to repeat the sentence.

Video 3 - numbers and counting

Goal - for Ashton to count

Outcome - Ashton was able to complete one gumball sheet today with some encouragement from me.

20/04/20

Video 1 - I see a (safari) (language-recognition of words)

Goal - to repeat the sentences

Outcome - I was slowly reading out the sentence while pointing to the words at the same time. I asked Ashton to say the words with me however he didn’t show much interest in repeating the words. Ashton repeated the words after I used a reinforcer to encourage Ashton to repeat the sentence with me.

Video 2 - come here (instruction)

Goal - for Ashton to come when he is called numerous times at one time.

Outcome - Ashton came to me when he was called when he was engaged in an activity.

21/4/20

21/04/20

Video - pretend play (social)

Goal - to engage in imaginative play

Outcome - I set up areas around the room (ocean, bugs, dinosaurs) for the big t-Rex to go around and eat. I went around the room as the t-Rex while Ashton fed the animals to the hungry t-Rex. He was very excited throughout the game and enjoyed watching the animals get Eaten.

Video 2 - numicon (numbers)

Goal - to count and identify how many animals are on each page.

Outcome - Ashton was able to tell and show me how many animals were on each page. We talked about what we could see on each page. Ashton began to lose interest so I said we will do one more and then we’re all done. I asked Ashton what the starfish was feeling, he was being cheeky and said sad instead of happy, we then went through all emotions together.

Video 1 - Scooping Cups

Goal - to toss the ball up and catch it in the scooping cup. Promote gross motor - balance and strength.

Outcome - Ashton was a little more interested this week. I decided to do the activity inside to see if that limited distractions for Ashton. Unlike last time I was able to get Ashton to give the task a go. We took turns and I helped him by doing hand over hand. Ashton needs lots practice in this area.

Video 2 - Yellow Stepper

Goal - to use the stepper without holding my hand.

Outcome - Ashton is still wanting to hold my hand during this activity.

Video 3 - star program 1 play and social interaction lesson one - readiness for play.

Goal - to relinquish a highly motivating toy when I put my hands out/when I say my turn.

Outcome - I followed the instructions for this activity by using a toy that has a button and lights up with sound. At first I let Ashton play with the toy and than I held out my hands for him to give it to me. Ashton didn't give the toy up easily but I was able to grab it off him a few times. I than tried saying 'my turn' and Ashton would say yes and pass me the toy some of the time but other times he would tell me no. All in all I feel Ashton was able to relinquish the toy some of the time but not every time so this activity needs to be repeated. It appears that Ashton responded better to this task when given the verbal cue that it was my turn rather than me just expectantly holding out my hands.

Video 1 - Match

Goal - to correctly match the shape to one of the three options.

Outcome - I know Ashton is good at matching but the shapes were all the same colour so I wanted to see if that would make it harder for Ashton. He was able to correctly identify and match the shapes. Ashton showed a high level of interest in this activity and actually kept requesting that we continue and do more

Video 2 - Cutting with scissors/Token Board (Star Program 1)

Goal - to independently cut along a dotted line using scissors correctly.

Goal (token board) - to place two tokens on the board to earn time playing with the reinforcer (magnet animals).

Outcome - Ashton was able to cut along the dotted line but at times he needed my help to hold the paper or adjust the scissors. He wasn't overly interested in this activity even though I chose a dinosaur for him to cut (I used the dinosaur in the hope it would keep him interested in the activity).

Ashton was able to place the two tokens onto the board however, I'm not sure he properly understood what that meant. I feel I need to explain the token board better next time. I should have counted out the tokens already on the board first to better explain to Ashton that getting two more would make five (I did tell him that two more would make five but I didn't count out what he initially had on the board). That way when he ended up with five he may have had more awareness of what that meant.

15/04/20

No video - star program - arrival

Goal - to follow a set of steps leading up to our arrival at the playroom

Outcome - upon arrival Ashton was able to greet and wave to Chantelle and I. When it was time to head to the playroom Ashton came as soon as we said it was time to go. We adjusted this activity to fit the set of steps on how we go/arrive at the playroom instead of kindy.

Video 2 - numbers and counting

Goal - for Ashton to count the amount of gumballs and place to corresponding number at the bottom of the machine.

Outcome - With encouragement Ashton was able to count the number of gumballs in each machine and place the corresponding number at the bottom of the machine without any assistance.

Video 1 - cutting with scissors

Goal - for Ashton to cut along the line using the correct scissor grip

Outcome - Ashton didn’t want to do this activity, I encouraged him using hand over hand but he began to get upset so I asked him what he would like to do and he said draw. He was able to trace along the line independently however found the pencil grip hard .

14/4/20

14/04/20

Video 1 - to create distractions while Ashton is doing a motivational activity

Goal - for Ashton to communicate his needs verbally

Outcome - I offered Ashton two motivational activities, Ashton chose the LEGO dragon. I pulled off the wing and tail to use it as a distraction so Ashton would verbally ask for something that he needed.

Video 2 - I see a (safari)

Goal - for Ashton to complete the sentence

Outcome - Ashton didn’t show any interest in this activity, I pointed to the words on the page and said “I see a” and waited for Ashton to respond with the name of the animal. When he didn’t say the name I completed the sentence by placing the picture of the animal at the end. Ashton repeated the last sentence of the activity.

Video 3 - come here

Goal - for Ashton to come when he is called numerous times at one time.

Outcome - Ashton came to me when he was called many times from numerous spots in the house, I used the “do you want Godzilla” as a motivator once during this activity today.

Making wonderful facial reactions to emotions.

13/04/20

Video 1,2,3 - come here

Goal - for Ashton to come when called

Outcome - Ashton came to me when I called his name quite quickly when we were inside. When I took him outside to the tennis court I asked him a few times before he came over to me.

Video 4 - phonics island

Goal - to recognise and verbalise all the letters of the alphabet

Outcome - Ashton enjoys doing this activity independently, he is able to identify most letters of the alphabet but doesn’t always want to verbally tell me what they are when I ask. At some points during the activity I held his hands and asked him to sound out or name the letter that was on the screen.

Video 1 - Tracing Lines

Goal - to independently trace lines with correct pen grip.

Outcome - Ashton needs to work in his pen grip. He needed encouragement and hand over hand to complete the activity. He also got distracted with scribbling on the cars etc. at the side.

Video 2 - Which one is different?

Goal - to identify which one is different out of a selection of three where two are the same and one is different.

Outcome - Ashton was able to correctly identify which one was different however he lost interest at the end and needed encouragement to finish the task. The last card showed three bugs all of the same colour - two ants and a lady beetle, I feel the fact they were all the same colour made it harder for Ashton to identify the different bug compared to the previous cards which had bugs of different colours.

Video 3 - Yellow Stepper

Goal - to improve leg strength and balance. To be able to use the stepper without holding my hand.

Outcome - Ashton's overall strength and balance has drastically improved over the last few weeks. He still wants to hold my hand for extra balance. I think it gives him a sense of security and safety. I feel Ashton isn't too far off completing this goal.

8/4/20

Video 1 - writing/tracing

Goal - to trace along the lines using a pencil grip

Outcome - Ashton was able to hold his pen with assistance, he showed some understanding of where to begin on the line and where to end however was not able to follow the curve of the line. I did some hand over hand to encourage Ashton to trace the line slowly and follow the curve

Video 2 - I see a (safari)

Goal - to identify the animal and finish the sentence by placing the photo of the matching animal at the end of the sentence

Outcome - I used the easier book of this activity today with the picture of the animal at the end of the sentence and only placed a few of the animal cards to choose from. Ashton called the leopard a cheetah but was able to Match the animal. Ashton asked to have all the animals on the table and began to put another animal over the animal that was pictured.

Just before bed.....

Counting skills addition advanced concept for Ashton .

In the evening before bed Ashton was in the lounge with all of us. He asked for a cracker .. ate it and asked for another one . He then asked for another one and I said “that’s a lot of crackers!” He said another cracker please. Then said three when I gave it to him. He finished it and then asked for another one and held up his four fingers and said “ four crackers.”

Video of shopping list

Video 1 - shopping list

Goal - to be able to identify the items on his shopping list and say yes or no if he needs the item that I show him for his basket

Outcome - Ashton said yes to all items even if it wasn’t on his shopping list for his basket.

Video 2 - I see a (safari)

Goal - to identify the animal and finish the sentence by placing the photo of the matching animal at the end of the sentence

Outcome - Ashton needed a lot of encouragement for this activity today, I prompted him a few times asking what animal was in the picture. He also tried to place different animals onto the blank space even when he knew which animal was to be placed in the blank box.

6/04/20

Ashton said tonight as he was going to bed it was still light. He said” you need to make the sun go down - I want the moon up!”

Video 1 - numbers and counting

Goal - to count how many gumballs are in the machine independently

Outcome - Ashton was able to count the smaller amount of gumballs independently but needed assistance in counting the larger amounts

Video 2 - animal yes/no

Goal - for Ashton to be able to clip yes or no independently onto the card which asks “is this a (animal)? Yes or no?

Outcome - Ashton is able to tell me yes or no if it is or isn’t the correct animal on the card. I assisted Ashton in placing the clip on yes or no.

03/04/20

Video 1 - Animal yes or no

Goal - for Ashton to be able to stick yes or no independently onto the card which has asks “is this a (animal)? Yes or no?

Outcome - Ashton was able to correctly identify animals. He said yes and no where appropriate but struggled to stick the sticker onto the word no. For example if the animal was a bunny and the card asked if it was a ladybug Ashton could say "no it's a bunny" but wanted to put the sticker on yes. This was because Ashton was identifying the bunny as a bunny so wanted to say "yes it's a bunny".

Video 2 - Sea Creature Playdough

Goal - to make a sea creature out of playdough following step by step instructions.

Outcome - Ashton was able to make tentacles for the octopus but required assistance from me to make the head and body. Ashton didn't want to follow the step by step instruction card.

Another idea for this activity would be to make the sea creatures and than use them in a role playing game.

Video 3 - Scooping Cups

Goal - hand/eye coordination by throwing a ball up and catching it in the scooping cup.

Outcome - Ashton was not interested in this activity. I thought it may be a good idea to do it outside but I think it was too distracting for him. I tried to demonstrate what Ashton needed to do. He did give it a little try however he will need lots of practice to master this skill. Next time I will try the activity inside to see if this helps Ashton to focus.

3/4/20

Speech therapy session

02/04/20

Video 1 - cutting with scissors

Goal - to cut along lines with scissors.

Outcome - Ashton was able to cut along the first two lines. He needed some assistance with me holding the paper. He seemed to have control with the scissors but needed help with putting his fingers in correctly (sometimes). He lost interest in the task fairly quickly. Next time I will print a page with dinosaurs to see if this will help him stay on task.

Video 2 - match and trace spirals

Goal - to correctly match and trace spirals independently.

Outcome - Ashton was able to quickly and correctly match the spirals however he did not want to trace them.

Video 3 - yellow stepper

Goal - to improve balance and strength.

Outcome - Ashton's overall balance and strength has greatly improved over the last few weeks since I started using the stepper with him. He is able to stand straight and his ability to push down to move the stepper seems to have also improved. He is showing a lot more strength when pushing down. My overall goal is for Ashton to be able to use the stepper without me holding his hand.

1/4/20

Cutting skills

Goal - to cut paper along a line using scissors

Outcome - Ashton wanted to use the orange scissors to cut the paper and I knew it wouldn’t work but I let him try. It wouldn’t work so I offered Ashton another pair of scissors and he didn’t want to use that pair but I encouraged him to use them and he did. It was still tricky to cut the paper using the scissors for some reason but Ashton continued to finish his cutting activity.

Paper

Video - cutting play dough

Goal - to cut the play dough into pieces

Using scissors

Outcome - Ashton was able to cut pieces of play dough using the scissors, however he needed help to hold the scissors correctly.

Goal - to wait, take turns and answer questions

Outcome - This was Ashton’s first turn at the game show. He was able to sit and wait for part of the game and answer questions with assistance. Ashton didn’t show much interest in the girls having their turns, towards the end he became restless and needed a lot of encouragement to answer his final question
